LOGIE BURYING GROUND TO BE SHUT

The public of Dundee will entirely approve of the judgement of the sheriff in shutting up the Logie Burying Ground ; while by the inhabitants of the Logie district the decision will be gladly hailed. After the facts adduced in evidence on Friday, the only wonder is that this burying ground should have been allowed to remain open so long. It is now years since we called the attention of the authorities to the disgraceful condition of this ground ; in which - judging from the horrible revelations made of its condition - there has been for years no such thing as "Christian burial." Of course, in all such cases the surviving relatives who desire to be buried beside their friends who have died before are to be sympathised with ; but considerations of public health cannot be postponed to those personal feeling. And now that the Logie ground is to be shut up, the question of the similar treatment of our remaining intramural places of interment must speedily come up. St Andrew`s and St Peter`s Churchyards are much complained of by those who reside in their neighbourhood ; and, facing the subject seriously, it may be said that it would be nearly as reasonable to bury in a back court as in some of these intramural churchyards. It is only a question of time when these are to be closed : meanwhile, interments in them should be discouraged as much as possible.
