In memory of Mr William Grant Merchant in Dundee
who died suddenly 22nd February 1831 aged 26 years
(Damaged to to erosion)
MDCCCXXXI. Erected to the memory of Mr William Grant, Merchant,
Dundee, who died suddenly on the 22nd February 1831, in the 27th year of his
age. This monument has been raised by a number of his intimate friends, as a
testimony of their regard and esteem for him. Mr Grant naturally possessed those
qualities which enable man a richly cultivated mind, chastened by Christian
principles, rendered him an object of love and admiration wherever he was known.
These will serve long to keep alive a recollection of him in the bosom of his
friends, while the suddenness of his death calls loudly upon them to attend to
the solemn admonition of scripture, - Prepare to meet thy God.

REAR
In front of this stone are deposited the remains of Peter Grant Feuar Butterburn Dundee,
father of the deceased Mr William Grant, to whose memory this monument was
erected, for many years a respectable dyer in this place he died 16th November 1831 aged 67 years.
