David Constable

Remainder of the monument was illegible on the day due to lighting conditions.


The Reverend Thomas Constable, D.D., Minister of Liff and Benvie, died the 17th April 1817, in the 62 year of his age, and 32 of his ministry. David Constable his father died the 14th July 1778.

In reverence and affection to a father and brother, whose worth must be long remembered, the family raised the monument. Matilda Constable died 24th August 1820, much regretted. Sacred to the memory of Maria Constable Nicoll, eldest daughter of James Nicoll and Agnes Maria Constable, who died 6th March 1838, aged 18 years. She was of very amiable dispositions and excellent principles, a warm hearted friend, an affectionate sister, a dutiful child, and a sincere Christian.

Eulogy.


To the memory of Agnes Watson ( Spouse of the late David Constable), who died 3 or May 1822, aged 89 years and 6 months, sincerely beloved and regretted. Also to the memory of Captain David Constable their son who died at sea 1794, aged 35 years; and of Matilda Constable their daughter, who died 24th August 1820,  Agnes Constable their daughter who died 24th August 1820. These monuments are raised by the remaining part of the family, as a memorial and tribute of the respect, love, and gratitude, which they bear to departed Father, Mother and Brothers and Sister. In memory of Agnes Constable who died 3rd January 1833.

Miss Barbara Constable, who died at Dundee 3rd October 1846, and Miss Christian Constable, who died at Balmyle 15th September 1848, This table is affectionatley inscribed by their niece Agnes Maria Constable wife of James Nicoll Constable of Balmyle and their family.
