James Reid
Facing has broken up, this stone was noted as being fallen in the 1980s.
1827. Erected by James Reid, Baker, Hilltown, Dundee, in
memory of his spouse Margaret Tosh, who died 4th March 1817, aged 25 years.
We mourn'd - our eyes bedew'd with tears,
Our hearts oppress'd with woe;
The brightest hopes of earthly joys,
Unsparingly laid low.
Weep not Parents dear,
I am not dead, but sleeping here;
My end you know, my grave you see,
Prepare yourself to follow me.
The above inscription was obliterated by 1838, to be replaced
by that below :-
Erected by James Reid, Baker, and Ann Taws his spouse, in memory
of their son John Reid, who at Jacquemet, West Indies, on the 18th February
1838, aged 17 years; also James Reid who died on the 21st February 1838, aged 8
years.
