Here are laid the ashes of James Fairweather, a singularly honest and moderately successful Merchant in this Town. He was Provost, and bore other honours connected with that dignity. There were none of the Christian virtues which he did not greatly love, and constantly cultivate. When he died he had lived 68 years. He died on the 5th day of December, in the year 1738 With the ashes of his father, here rests what was mortal of John Fairweather, Merchant and Bailie of Dundee, who was held in great respect for his religion and truth, as one who avoided every false way. He was born 14th May, 1706, and died 31st July, 1760. Bailie, 1738 and 1740
