Sacred the memory of JOHN
PITCAIRN merchant and sometime
provost of Dundee who died 23rd
November 1800
during the whole
course of a long life nearly extended
to the utmost limit of human expectation
he exhibited a bright example of the most
unaffected piety and virtue he was an
affectionate husband a tender and
indulcent father a sincere and steadfast
friend beloved as a citizen and respected
as a magistrate: He died and carried
in to his grave the affection of his family: The respect of his friends and
the love and esteem of all: In July
1748 he married JEAN ROBERTSON daughter of ALEXANDER ROBERTSON
sometime provost of Dundee (1730-31)
By whom he had issue six sons and three
daughters: Whereof three sons and three daughters survived him
also sacred to the memory of
ANDREW PITCAIRN son of the above
died 18th November 1847 aged 80 and
JANET WALKER his wife died 17th
June 1853 aged 71
and their sons and daughter ALEXANDER PITCAIRN died 22nd
December 1842 aged 32 and
BETHUNE WALKER PITCAIRN died
15th January 1843 aged 28 years and
ISABELLA MORRISON PITCAIRN
Widow of Captain WILLIAM BURNETT
died 2nd January 1850 aged 43
