This stone was erected by William
Crichton, eldest son of the late Thomas Crichton, Merchant in Dundee, in memory
of the following persons, viz., the said Thomas Crichton, who died 4th Septr
1791, aged 79, and Margaret Irvine his spouse, who died 20th Novr 1766, aged 52.
Also their children, Jean, Margaret, Barbara, Helen and two Davids, who all died
young; Catherine who died 27th july 1763, aged 26; James who died at Stamford in
England on his return from Lisbon ( Where he had been for the benefit of a
milder climate ) 26th Septr 1778 aged 24; and also Martha Hoome second spouse to
the above Thomas Crichton, who died 26th Febr 1787, aged 52, and David Crichton
their eldest son, who was supposed to be lost on his passage from London, in a
great storm 26th Jany 1794.
This stone serves also as a memorial of the said William
Crichton and Ann Dooly his spouse and their family, viz, Margaret, their
daughter, who died 6th April 1791, aged 22 months.
