Original inscription is in Latin.
Here deposited rests John Lawson Junior, Citizen of Dundee,
Baker and Deacon of his trade, second to no citizen in his class for prudence,
piety and learning. Christian Mitchell, his dearest wife, as a testimony of
fidelity and conjuring love, erected this monument to his memory at her own
expense. When he lived 34 years, he at length died 3rd April, in the year of the
Christian era 16_6.
